                                          Food

For most
with atopic eczema what is eaten is not important.
It is true that active eczema can worsen with certain foods, but this may not be allergy - it can be a non-specific toxic reaction. Once the skin has healed the food can be eaten again without any problem.
For example, it has been known for a long time that oranges, lemons and tomatoes can give a toxic reaction when eaten. This is more common in children and usually disappears with age.
The reaction is particularly associated with existing eczema. or recently healed skin - in these phases the skin is relatively unstable.

Active eczema and recently healed skin can react with certain foods like oranges, lemons and tomatoes: this is not allergy however, and does not recur once the skin has fully recovered.
